Evidence & Lost and Found

  • The North Park Police Department Property/Evidence section is responsible for processing all incoming property and ensures the interigity of the chain of custody. The property and evidence section also handles firearm release process, and manages the Lost and Found.
  • Found property is held for 90 days while we attempt to locate the owner and is typically disposed of thereafter. Property items labled as “safe-keep” will be held for 90 days, after which the itmes will be disposed of in compliance with existing state laws.
  • Items held as evidence may only be released upon autorization from the prosecuting attorney or resposible detective. All evidence not held for evidence in a pending criminal investigation or proceeding, and held for six months or longer where the owner has not been located or fails to claim the property, may be disposed of in compliance with exsiting state laws.
  • The release of firearms will require an appointment with the evidence custodian during regular business hours and firearms will not be released until the owner of the firearm has successfully passed a background check, aslo know as a “Brady Check”.

Property is released by appointment only and requires valid government issued photo identification.

The evidence line, and email are not monitored on weekends or government holidays. All property released shall be done following strict guidelines and may include a background check per regulations, or proof of ownership. Please note, that the Property/Evidence section is only staffed during regular business hours 8:30AM-16:30PM, Monday -Friday.
